He kept introducing him to bitter reality of life which he dont need to hear as a teenager . Than he forced toto to leave that place and never return and he does the same and comes back after 30 years . I hav'nt seen the long version but it seems like he could hve a better chance of meeting elena if he was in same town and for all those things all alfredo did is gave him the old reels of intimate scenes .... wtfSureshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12089750659356268562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5390199041521256086.post-44722615457666227012019-04-18T13:34:49.938-07:002019-04-18T13:34:49.938-07:00For me aldredo hve been telling him wrong things t...For me aldredo hve been telling him wrong things throughout his life . That is an interesting i...Thank you for commenting

That is an interesting idea about The Odyssey. I did not think of Penelope when the mother's knitting unravels because she is not doing it to stave off anything nor does she use it to buy time. Also, at the conclusion of the movie, Toto cannot truly go home again because as Alfredo told him, there is nothing there for him. He really goes back to bury the past. His "home" is elsewhere, in Rome, now. To follow the allusion, who would be the suitors in the film?

However, that is the magic of Cinema Paradiso. There are many possible allusions and thematic insights. It is indeed a rich piece of cinematic literature.

Again, I appreciate your thoughtful comments. Take care.Paul L.
