My husband and I were recently riffed from a young innovative school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Of the 11 teachers on our staff, 9 of them were laid off. Because the school is a year round school, the next session begins in a few days, and there are almost no teachers to teach the subjects. It's really heartbreaking.
First of all, AJ, I am so sorry to hear that the two of you are without jobs. Keep your chins up and I will have a good thought for you in this difficult time. It is indeed a shame what is happening with the layoffs and RIf notices, but I think the tide will turn. We must keep writing and talking about how we are creating a world that will be mired in darkness for generations. Education should be the centerpiece discussion of the 2012 elections. By writing, speaking out, and protesting, we must let those in government know that we will not balance the budget on the backs of our children. The state of education in this country is simply unacceptable. Good luck in your search for a new teaching position and do not lose hope.

ReplyDeleteThank you -- I'm looking forward to seeing where life leads me next.
ReplyDeleteIn this economy, I think that attitude is the best you can have. We do not control our destiny; we have to just let the river run. Take care.
